Hebrew and your license: what the rules say

What we read as of October 29, 2026. Rules change: the Ministry of Health is the only authority.

Doctors
A 2013 regulation requires proof of basic Hebrew for the license or the internship. It can come from, among others, 105 points on the YAEL test, passing a level ג׳ ulpan, or the Hebrew program for the medical professions.
Nurses
The Ministry of Health requires proof of Hebrew to be listed on the nursing registry, for example 65 on the YAEL test or 70 on a level ג׳ ulpan exam. You can submit it up to three years after the licensing exam.
June 2027
Press articles report that from June 2027, doctors will have to show an intermediate level of Hebrew. We have not read any official page that confirms it.

Sources: the 2013 regulation on basic Hebrew for doctors, the Ministry of Health (nurses), IMAP. elev does not issue any certificate recognized for licensing.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the medical ulpan for?

English-speaking clinicians who work, or will work, in Israel: doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, physical therapists and other health professions. It is designed for learners who have reached ulpan level ב׳: it does not start from the alphabet.

What does the subscription include?

The medical ulpan and the full adult ulpan: all four levels, א׳ to ד׳, and 141 chapters. One subscription, for one person.

How much does the medical ulpan cost?

Two plans: monthly, with no commitment, or twelve months of access in one payment, or in several interest-free payments. Both prices are in the pricing section.

Can I try it before I pay?

Yes. The first chapter, taking a patient history, is free. So is the adult ulpan level test.

Is it recognized for licensing?

No. elev does not issue any certificate the Ministry of Health accepts as proof of Hebrew. The 2013 regulation for doctors lists other proofs, such as the YAEL test or a state-supervised level ג׳ ulpan. elev helps you practice the Hebrew of your work at your own pace, alongside those routes.

Will all doctors need Hebrew from June 2027?

Press articles say so, one of them sponsored. As of October 29, 2026, we have not read any official page that confirms it. What applies today: a 2013 regulation that already requires doctors to show basic Hebrew for the license.

Can I cancel?

The monthly plan can be canceled at any time from your account. The twelve months are a commitment, under elev's cancellation terms.
